Bar Stools

Counter stools typically measure 24-26 inches from floor to seat, making them perfect for kitchen islands. These stools are designed to pair with counter height tables or surfaces that are 34-36 inches tall in your kitchen or dining room. They're shorter than standard bar height stools, making them ideal for kitchen islands and dining counters that need comfortable seating.

Standard bar height stools measure 29-31 inches from floor to seat, offering more height compared to counter stools. These stools are designed to pair with bar height tables or surfaces that are 40-42 inches tall. Bar stools are taller than counter height stools to accommodate higher surfaces typically found in home bars and pub tables.

Bar stool height should match your surface height: choose 24-26 inch stools for counter height surfaces (34-36 inches), or 29-31 inch bar stools for bar height surfaces (40-42 inches) in a kitchen or dining room. Allow 9-12 inches between the seat and counter/bar surface for comfortable seating and legroom in your home.

To reupholster a bar stool, first remove the seat and strip off old fabric and staples. Cut new fabric using the old piece as a template, adding 2-3 inches extra all around, ensuring it's upholstery fabric. Center the fabric over new foam padding if needed, pull tight, and secure with staples working from the middle outward.

For a 36-inch counter, choose counter-height bar stools that measure 24-26 inches from floor to seat. This provides the ideal 10-12 inches of space between the seat and counter surface of your kitchen and dining room, allowing comfortable seating and enough leg room for most adults.

To measure the right bar stool height, use a tape measure from the floor to the top of the seat (not including the backrest). For accurate measurements, ensure the stool is on a level surface and measure straight up, not at an angle.

A 10-foot kitchen island can comfortably accommodate 4-5 bar stools, allowing 24-30 inches of width per person. This spacing ensures comfortable seating and easy movement, though the exact number depends on stool width and whether you want end overhang.
